The plebeians were the commoners of Rome, or they were everyone but the elite class. Most plebeians worked as farmers, bakers, builders, or artisans. Because the plebeians were the only class who had to pay taxes and were already low on money, they often struggled to support their families. As well as low in cash, they were low on the social scale. The plebeians had the least power in Rome. They were the largest class, and there were often uprises against the upper classes. The plebeians never spoke their mind; they kept to themselves. A reflection of this is all the art and writings from that period were from the elites.
